I came to the states in 2009 in China. There's no election. Most Chinese people have never heard about the word election recently. The media has become almost one voice kind of thing. That reminds me of my childhood in the brain wash in the cultural revolution. If you see any candidates, they share the same value with you, support them, fight with them.
